MACEDON, Dikaia. Circa 450-425/0 BC. AR Obol (11mm, 0.81 g, 6h). Bull standing right / Octopus within incuse square. Schönert-Geiss, Bisanthe –; AMNG II 59 (Thrace); SNG ANS –. Fine, some roughness, a hint of smoothing. Very rare.

Not to be confused with the city of Dikaia in Thrace, the Macedonian polis was founded by Eretrian colonists, hence the adoption of the octopus from the reverses of the coins of the mother city.
