TITUS, 79-81 AD. AR Denarius (3.08 gm). Laureate head left / The Alban sow with three piglets (from a litter of 30). RIC.II.986. XF. The reverse type refers to a legend of the foundation of the city. A white sow with thirty piglets showed Aeneas a bountiful site for the location of Rome. AEneid, viii, 42. It is also a reference to the emblem of the Tenth Legion who defeated the Jews.
