Wooden Oarsman Tomb Figure. Egypt, Middle Kingdom, 2052-1778 BC. Painted wooden figure of seated rower wearing a white skirt (this figure would row the ship transporting the deceased to the underworld). 9.75". Missing arms (separately carved), rear base chipped, otherwise intact and choice. Clear facial and hair details and good color. Outstanding. Larger than usual figure.
