EARLY MEDIEVAL AND ISLAMIC COINS AND WEIGHTS
Late Roman and Byzantine weights. Circa 3rd-4th century. Semounkia (Bronze, inlaid with silver, 16x7mm, 13.13 g), a commercial weight in the form of a a truncated sphere with a flat top and bottom, edge as MAH 39, Ounce of 26.26 g. 'S' with a flattened bottom, inlaid in silver. Rev. Plain, but with a centering hole. CPAI 3, 2, 43. Hendin 333-334. Solid and darkly patinated, but with a slightly pitted surface and some wear. Good fine.
