EARLY MEDIEVAL AND ISLAMIC COINS AND WEIGHTS
Circa 5th-6th century. Weight of 1-ounkion (Brass, inlaid with silver, 26x5mm, 24.79 g), a thick discoid commercial weight with a convex double-grooved profile (MAH A 30) and raised rims; recessed top and bottom, the top with a large centering hole and the bottom with a raised centering point within an incuse circle, ounce of 24.79 g. Latin cross above Γ° - Α within an indistinct wreath. Rev. Plain. CF MAH 155. Chisel cuts on edge, considerable remains of deposits, including a large lump on the bottom, scratches (both contemporary and from modern cleaning), fine.
