Maroneia. Circa 189/8-49/5 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 34mm, 15.11 g 12). Head of youthful Dionysos to right, wearing taenia and ivy wreath, and with his hair partially knotted at the back and partially falling down the back of his neck. Rev. ΔΙΟΝΥΣΟΥ / ΣΩΤΗΡΟΣ / ΜΑΡΩΝΙΤΩΝ Nude Dionysos standing to left with cloak over his left arm, holding bunch of grapes in his right hand and narthex stalks in his left; to left and right, monogram. Schönert-Geiss 1196. A lovely example with most attractive old cabinet toning. Some areas of weak striking on reverse, otherwise, good very fine.
