Great Britain 1741 Admiral Vernon, Battle at Cartagena Medal commemorating Admiral Edward Vernon (1684-1757) and Admiral Sir Chaloner Ogle (1681?-1750), the attack on Cartagena, 1741. Obverse: Two full-length figures: Vernon (left), facing three-quarter right, wearing hat; baton in right hand, the left extended. Ogle (right), facing left, baton in left hand, the right extended. Line enclosing legend. Legend: 'ADML VERNON AND SR CHALONER OGLE'. Exergue: 'WE LOOK FOR DON BLASS'. Reverse: Two ships sailing to right towards a fort in foreground; a boat on either side. Two forts in centre, connected by a chain boom, behind which a third boat. Inscription (above the boat): 'DON BLASS'. In background a city in straight line. Line enclosing legend. Legend: 'TOOK CARTHAGENA APRIL 1741'. Vernon bombarded Cartagena in 1740 and a disastrous attempt was made to capture the city in April 1741.
