Thailand 1911 Ag Coronation Medal, Rama VI Silver Coronation Medal with clasp and bar struck in 1911 for the Coronation of Rama VI; Circular silver medal with swivel scrolled ribbon bar; the face with the head and shoulders portrait of King Vajiravudh (Rama VI), circumscribed in Thai characters; the reverse with an inscription in Thai characters noting the occasion commemorated by the medal; on replaced correct ribbon. The medal was instituted to mark the coronation of King Vajiravudh's (Rama VI) on 2 December 1911. King Vajiravudh was born at Bangkok on 1 January 1881, the second son of King Chulalongkorn. His elder brother died in 1895 and he thus became Crown Prince. He was educated in England and became an accomplished literary scholar. He became King on the death of his father on 23 October 1910 but it was more than a year before his coronation took place. This was a very grand affair, with members of the royal families of Great Britain, Russia, Japan, Denmark and Sweden present. He died in Bangkok on 26 November 1925 aged just forty-four years. The medal is rare, Uncirculated and wonderfully toned.
