UNITED STATES. Special Mint Set (an official government issue). 1957 P D (Philadelphia, Denver). Mint State; the Treasury Department envelope, cardboard inserts and the coins of the Philadelphia Mint are in the original packaging (not shown in photo). The coins are superb. The Denver Mint pieces are in a Whitman plastic holder. The Denver coins show slight handling but are still fully Mint State. The Franklin halves show full bell lines. Official sets in this format were first issued in 1947. The current (2017) Red Book values the early sets at levels that suggest few were bought and saved. The 1957 set is valued at $700, a value not far from published wholesale values. The estimate reflects the slight problems with the set that was removed from original packaging.
