Nero Claudius Drusus. Died 9 B.C. Æ sestertius. 23.09 gm. 32 mm. Rome mint. Struck under Claudius, A.D. 42-43. His bare head left; NERO CLAVDIVS DRVSVS GERMANICVS IMP / Claudius seated left on curule chair, holding branch; weapons and armor to either side of globe below; TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG P M TR P IMP. RIC I 93 (Claudius). Fine; bold pleasing portrait; light roughness beneath dark brown patina setting off brighter orichalcum figures and legends. Scarce. Nero Claudius Drusus was the son of Nero and Livia, brother of Tiberius, son-in-law of Mark Antony, and father of the emperor Claudius. After successfully campaigning in Germany he died falling from a horse in summer camp.
