Caracalla. A.D. 198-217. AR denarius. 3.57 gm. 19 mm. Rome mint. Struck A.D. 202. Older boy's laureate and draped bust right; ANTONINVS PIVS AVG / Victory advancing left, holding wreath and palm; VICT PART MAX. RIC IV.1 144b. RSC 658. Very Fine; lightly toned; both sides well centered. This reverse is celebrating victory over the Parthians. Caracalla was cruel and treacherous, and murdered his brother Geta in the arms of their mother. He did grant Roman citizenship to all free inhabitants of the Empire in 212 A.D.
