Danubian limes. Cast lead mystic plaque. Dacia and Moesia, 3rd-4th century AD. Obv. Figural design in several scenes : arch with coiled serpents above in the upper corners; three bands of figures within the arch; Sol Invictus (Helios) in a chariot pulled by four hippocamps, with radiate crown and cloak, in the upper row, stars to left and to right.
In the middle row, Helen facing between the Dioscuri on horseback (the Danubian Horsemen); soldier with spear and shield and fish below the horse to the left; figure standing and prone figure trampled by the horseman to the right.
In the third row, feasting scene with diners at a table flanked by two naked attendants to right; shepherd hanging animals from tree to left.
In the lower row, amphora between lion and coiled snake; fish on tripod to left; hen standing left to right. Rev. Plain. PB. g. 138.40 RR. 94x79mm. Very rare in this exceptional condition. Magnificent grey-green patina. EF.
