The Roman Empire
Octavian as Augustus, 27 BC – 14 AD

Octavian received the honourary title of Augustus on 16th January 27. His portrait style as Augustus is a continuation of his ageless portraits used after the battle of Actium, culminating in Augustus' most famous portrait, that of Prima Porta. It was named after a completely preserved statue, now in the Vatican museum, that was found at the site of Livia's villa near Prima Porta outside of Rome. AMP.

A peculiar portrait and a wonderful untouched enamel-like olive green
patina somewhat broken on the edge. Usual adjustments marks,
otherwise about extremely fine / extremely fine
Augustus'portraits on sestertii are limited to these Eastern ones and those of Lugdunum, the latter very generic in their stylistical elements. This specimen has a fascinating portrait style. AMP.
