The Roman Empire
Octavian as Augustus, 27 BC – 14 AD
Denarius, Caesaraugusta (?) circa 19–18 BC, AR 3.61 g. CAESAR – AVGVSTVS Oak-wreathed head r. Rev. DIVVS – IVLIVS Eight-rayed comet with tail upwards. C 98. BMC 323. RIC 37a. CBN 1292.
An unusual and lovely portrait, surface somewhat porous, otherwise extremely fine
We dare to dissent for this piece from all the reference works that attribute the above denarius to the mint of Caesaraugusta. In our opinion when compared to the previous lot, we can conclude that the coins cannot belong to the same mint. The portrait is of a very elegant style.
