This coin is part of the large issues in gold, silver and bronze minted primarily for the legions along the river Rhine. A very typical portrait for the mint of Lugdunum. The images of his intended heirs Caius and Lucius on the reverse are too small to have relevant portrait features. Their portraits however survive in sculpture. AMP
