The Roman Empire
Claudius, 41-54
Sestertius 41-50, Æ 26.81 g. TI CLAVDIVS AVG P M TR P IMP Laureate head r. Rev. SPES – AVGVSTA Spes advancing l., holding flower and raising skirt; in exergue, S C. C 85. BMC 124. RIC 99. CBN 165. A lovely green patina, minor metal flaw on obverse and some minor
corrosion on reverse, otherwise about extremely fine
Claudius depicts a variety of portraiture types on his coins, with multiple auxiliary mints operating in parallel to the Roman one. This sestertius is in my opinion a wonderful example from a Western mint. AMP.
