The Roman Empire
Claudius, 41-54

Plated denarius 50-51, AR 2.88 g. TI CLAVD CAESAR AVG P M TR P X IMP P P Laureate head r. Rev. S P Q R / P P / OB C S within oak-wreath. C 93. BMC 66. RIC 54. CBN – (cf. 68, aureus).
Very rare. Light iridescent tone and good extremely fine

A very fine style for a plated denarius. In the ongoing debate if plated coins are mere forgeries or official issues trying to save precious metal, such quality supports the theory that they were produced in the official mint. AMP.
