The Roman Empire
Vitellius, circa late April – 20 December 69

Dupondius circa late April-December 69, Æ 14.29 g. A VITELLIVS GERMA IMP AVG P M TR P Laureate and draped bust r. Rev. CONCORDIA AVGVSTI Concordia seated l., holding cornucopiae and patera over altar; in exergue, S C. C 16. BMC 65 note. RIC 126. CBN 99.
Very rare and in exceptional condition for the issue. A lovely portrait and a fine green
patina with a slightly rough surface, otherwise about extremely fine

Ex Naville VIII, 1924, Bement 692; Santamaria 14 October 1949, Magnaguti, 575 and UBS 78, 2008, Gillardi, 1549 sales.
This obverse die represents, in my opinion, the best portrait style of Vitellius. Not surprisingly another coin with this particular obverse die was chosen by Kurt Lange in his book "Herrscherköpfe des Altertums" of 1938. An exceptional bronze coin. AMP.
