Marcus Aurelius caesar, 139 – 161

Marcus' portrait types as caesar evolve from a young child with a round head depicted on the reverse of the coins of his adoptive father, to various adolescent stages differentiated by an increasing growth of his beard, to finally a young man with a full beard. Denarii as Caesar are difficult to come by in good style. AMP.

Light iridescent tone and extremely fine
This is Marcus' second portrait type and the first with him on the obverse. He is shown as an adolescent young man, but still without any trace of a beard. AMP.
