The Roman Empire
Lucius Verus, 161 – 169
Contrary to the previous adoptive emperors, whose first portraits on coins are oriented towards their adoptive fathers, Lucius' first portraits show a resemblance to his adoptive brother Marcus Aurelius; both are presented with a long beard. Lucius later changes his portrait to a fiercer expression, with a longer and, at times, forked beard. AMP.
