The Roman Empire
Trajan Decius, 249 – 251
Divus Titus. Antoninianus 250-251, AR 3.51 g. DIVO TITO Radiated head of Divus Titus r. Rev. CONSECRATIO Altar. C 405. RIC Trajan Decius 82b. Extremely fine
The Consecratio series of TraianusDecius is particularily interesting, as it revives portraits of emperors of several centuries past and shows how present the "branded" portraits of previous emperors remained in the minds of the Romans after such along time. This Divus Titus portrait is quite recognisable without reading the text. AMP.
