Fausta, wife of Constantine I

Follis, Treviri 326, Æ 3.70 FLAV MAX – FAVSTA AVG Draped bust r., wearing double pearl necklace Rev. SPES REIP – VBLICAE Spes standing facing, looking l., holding two children in her arms. In exergue, PTR crescent with pellet. C 6. RIC 484. Virtually as struck and almost Fdc

Privately purchased from Gorny & Mosch in 2015.
Fausta's portraits on coins adopt a hairstyle seen on Faustina II more than 150 years earlier. Futhermore the portraits of her sons as young princes suggest an intentional renaissance of the golden age of the Antonines. This follis is an exceptional example of this type. AMP.
