Man'en gold Oban ND (1860-62) MS64 PCGS, JNDA 9-11, KM-C24a.2, Fr-7, 112.8 gms, 134 x 80 mm. This is the variety with machine-made horizontal crenelations. Included is the JNDA certificate of authentication (Japan Numismatic Dealers Association Authentication Committee) # 44516, signed by the President of the association, with weight and pictures of this outstanding example. This certificate attests to the genuineness of the Oban, and also to the fact that the ink signature is original. This is the last of the large gold Oban issues. The surfaces of this piece are clear, and bright, with sharply struck devices, and a near-perfect signature, with only faint loss on the high points. While relatively few examples of the Koban or this large Oban type have been seen by PCGS, this example is currently the single highest graded example of any type that PCGS has certified.
