Straits Settlements
British Colony. Victoria 5 Cents 1871 MS65 NGC, Royal mint, KM10, Pr-122. Notable as the first date from this series, as well as a conditional rarity, with only a small number surviving in this near-pristine condition due to the heavy circulation of this small denomination. Seen here is a true Gem, with icy-gray surfaces handsomely-dappled by russet color across the reverse, and bold centers that rise above the low-lying fields. Luster throughout is obvious, and very much alluring, as it brightens the design features upon rotation. As the grade suggests, the open expanses are essentially free of handling, further elevating this specimen's greatness. An altogether superb offering from this one-time British territory in Southeast Asia.
