Netherlands Indies Muntbiljet 500 Gulden 2.3.1943 Pick 118a. The highest denomination of the World War II liberation issue printed by the ABNCo. Dutch air, land, and sea forces are portrayed on the back. The government-in-exile headed by Acting Governor General H.J. van Mook set up shop at Camp Columbia in Brisbane, Australia after the Japanese invasion. Mook's engraved signature appears at left. The first Netherlands Indies Civil Administration (NICA) detachments landed at Hollandia (New Guinea) in April 1944 shortly after the start of Operation Reckless by United States forces.
