Duress Note Hong Kong Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation $500 1.7.1937 Pick UNL. The second $500 "duress note" to appear in this auction session. This piece has a different date than the other example and the 1.7.1937 date of this note is also not listed in Krause for this important World War II variety. However, "duress notes" are discussed in detail on pages 220-21 of World War II Remembered by C. Frederick Schwan and Joseph E. Boling. In fact, we see that a 1.7.1937 $500 "duress note" is plated on page 221. The example in this lot has serial number C257,238 and grades PMG Very Fine 25, splits, minor rust, and annotations.
