India Reserve Bank of India 1000 Rupees 5.11.1998 Pick Unlisted Giesecke and Devrient Lead Test Note. An impressive note and the first example that this cataloguer has seen. The design is dated to 1998, which is two years before the first issuance if the actual 1000 Rupee note. This note is executed in a different color from the red issued note, but uses the same layout with some minor design changes around the frames. The existence of the LEAD holographic strip in the right side also suggests this note was probably printed to sell the Giesecke and Devrient technology. As India has its own banknote printing works, it is unlikely this test note was printed to acquire the entire printing contract. This note is probably unique, and exhibited only to the highest ranking officials in the Reserve Bank and Note Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India. A must for any collector of Indian notes, with its lofty grade and ladder serial number. PMG Superb Gem Uncirculated 67 EPQ.
