Japan Great Imperial Japanese Circulating Note 15th National Bank (Tokyo) 2 Yen ND (1873) Pick 11. These circulating notes are among the most popular and aesthetically pleasing examples in all of Japanese currency. Two magnificently engraved samurai warriors appear on either side of the face, with 2 Yen gold coins and a traditional Japanese palace on the back. The Fifteenth National Bank of Tokyo is by no means a common bank, but it is not quite as scarce as many of the other 153 banks that issued these notes between 1873-79. This example grades a pleasing and evenly circulated PMG Very Fine 25 with an expertly conducted restoration a split along the top margin which is barely discernable.
