Afghanistan, 1878-1880, no clasp (2606, Pte F. Chap - Ian, 2/7th Foot), erased and renamed, possibly officially, 'm' of Chapman incomplete, cleaned, a few light scratches, very fine. Private Frederick Chapman was born at Offley, near Hitchin, Hertfordshire, in 1853 and enlisted in the Royal Fusiliers on 14 January 1873. He served with the Regiment in Afghanistan from February 1880, and 'distinguished himself' [at the] Siege of Kandahar 1880' (recipient's service papers refer). He was honourably discharged on 25 April 1899 after 26 years and 102 days with the Colours.
