Ex D.N.W. 27 September 1994, lot 203, £410 hammer; ex. Jack Wadey Collection. Private John Jones was dangerously wounded in action, receiving a gun-shot wound to the left thigh, during the Gordons' famous assault and capture of the hilltop stronghold known as the 'Dargai Heights' on 20 October 1897, where Piper George Findlater and Private Edward Lawson won the Victoria Cross. His name is confirmed on Anthony Farrington's casualty roll. Offered with copied roll entry, confirming his two clasp medal, with the remark 'invalided'. (£500-700)
