EASTERN SISTAN: Ya'qub, 9th century, AR drachm (2.32g), A-E90, countermarked ya'qub / ja'iz on type 89D of Salih Rida, SK (Sijistan) mint, undated, pierced and quite worn, but totally clear countermark, Fine, RRRR. Previously unknown countermark, which may refer to Ya'qub b. al-Layth, founder of the Saffarid dynasty, which would also suggest that the al-Layth on types B90 and C90 might be his father.
