ABBASID: al-Mu'tadid, 892-902, AR dirham (2.94g), Makka (Mecca), AH283, A-242, decent strike, pierced twice, F-VF, RRR. Despite its religious prominence, coinage was very rarely issued at Mecca, and most existing specimens are of the greated rarity. Only from 282 to 293 both dirhams and dinars were struck there occasionally, during the caliphates of al-Mu'tadid and his successor al-Muktafi. Production must have been minuscule, as all these coins are very rare today, and have never been found in significant quantities in hoards of that period.
