TURKEY: Abdul Aziz, 1861-1876, AE souvenir medal (16.61g), "Makka", ND, KM--, stylized inscriptions in Arabic & Ottoman Turkish, pierced for supension, porous surface with a few traces of corrosion, Fine, RR. Not a coin but a souvenir medal believed to have been sold to Muslims who completed the Hajj, the visit to Makka (Mecca). Even though the medal is inscribed fi darb makka, "of being struck at Mecca", it is believed that they were most likely produced at Istanbul or some other major city in either Turkey or Syria.
