This rare series seldom is available for collectors and we have only handled this 5 Yen denomination a handful of times. The note is part of the short lived 1877-78 series with only the 1 and 5 Yen denominations issued. This 5 Yen piece is VF quality, but still retains very pleasing detail and is mentioned with only a minor repair which we cannot locate looking through the encapsulation surface. The last VF 30 we offered realized $7,170.00 as lot 53386 in our August 2012 Hong Kong sale. An important opportunity. PMG Very Fine 30 Net. Closed Pinholes.
