SICILY. Syracuse. Dionysios I, 406-367 B.C. AR Tetradrachm (16.78 gms), ca. 405-395 B.C. NGC EF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 3/5. Fine Style. Scratches.
Tudeer-91; SNG ANS-296. Charioteer driving fast quadriga left, Nike above flying right crowning charioteer, dolphin in exergue (obscured); Reverse: Head of Arethusa facing left, hair in ampyx and sphendone, drawn upwards and flowing up, four dolphins around, ethnic behind. The reverse is well centered on a broad flan, displaying exceptional detail of this fine style die in the technique of Eucleidas. Scratches present on the obverse, as well as several planchet flaws. The reverse however is a lovely example of classical beauty. NGC EF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 3/5. Fine Style. Scratches.
