VALERIAN I, A.D. 253-260. AE Sestertius (19.08 gms), Rome Mint, ND. NGC EF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 3/5.
RIC-155; Cohen-40. "IMP C P LIC VALERIANVS AVG" Laureate, draped bust of Valerian I facing right; Reverse: "CONCORDIA EXERCIT" Concordia standing facing left, holding patera and double cornucopiae. Very well centered, and struck on a medallic flan. Possibly a presentation piece, as it is obvious to a careful observer that this was carefully prepared especially the detailed portrait. A level of craftsmanship that is not often encountered, this piece is sure to cause spirited bidding when it reaches the auction podium. NGC EF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 3/5.
