GREAT BRITAIN. Battle of Dunbar Military Award Silver Medal, 1650 (18th to 19th Century Restrike). PCGS Genuine--Tooled, Unc Details Secure Holder.
28 x 35 mm; 17.94 gms. Eimer-181a.3; MI-I, 392/14. After T. Simon. Draped armored bust of Oliver Cromwell with long hair left, scene of the battle of Dunbar in distance behind; Reverse: Interior view of the assembled Parliament with speaker seated in center. A later restrike from original dies identified by the die tooling and smoothing present around the bust of Cromwell which erases the horizon line in the distance and the diagonal quadrants on the reverse. It is noted in MI and Eimer that this was done to remove rust and flaws which had developed over time. Despite the aged state of the dies this struck example is quite pleasing with the very nicely rendered bust by Simon unaltered and handsome and the detailed reverse still with individual figures in the assembled crowd. Two contact marks on cheek and hair as the only signs of handling. Attractively toned with the more protected relived areas gaining a glossy golden gray hue and the fields and less textured elements having a sky blue sheen. PCGS Genuine--Tooled, Unc Details Secure Holder.

From the Michael Druck Collection.

Estimate: $700.00- $1000.00
