GREAT BRITAIN. 6 Pence Pattern Struck in Silver, 1658. Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector (1653-58). NGC FINE-12.
S-3229; KM-PnE27; ESC-1504 (R-6); Bull-260 (R-6). EXTREMELY RARE, Bull reports only 4 known examples. Dies engraved by Simon, struck in silver. Obverse legend: "HIB &c PRO". Laurel leaf points to first leg of "A" with four berries in wreath. Reeded edge. Listed as R6 in the ESC and quite possibly one of the only such original strikings available to private collectors. Even wear which is consistent with the assigned grade but all the same the design elements are delineated and visible and the legends are complete. Despite the handling wear there is nothing in the way of contact marks to interrupt the fields. Deeply toned throughout with a handsome deep old cabinet gray. An exciting and all too seldom offered piece which is one of the major keys to an already difficult series of Cromwell types. NGC FINE-12.

From the Michael Druck Collection.

Estimate: $10000.00- $15000.00
