GREAT BRITAIN. Coronation of William & Mary Gold Medal, 1689. William & Mary (1688-94). NGC AU-55.
35 mm. Eimer-312a; MI-I,662/25. By J. Rottier. Conjoined draped busts of William and Mary; Reverse: Jove hurling thunderbolt at Phaethon who falls from his chariot. RARE gold striking of the official coronation medal with a mintage of only 515 pieces most of which have seen the melting pot over the past three centuries. A lovely lustrous example with some light toning in the reverse field. A few light touches of wear to the high points consistent with grade as well as some stray light lines or tiny contact marks, none of which does anything to detract from the great eye appeal of the piece. Nice strike with strong luster and quite attractive. NGC AU-55.
