MIXED LOTS. Worldwide Naval-Themed Medals, ND (ca. 17th to 20th Century). FINE to GEM BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED.
Sizes range from 20 to 95 mm. 42 pieces in lot. Primarily European, but the Americas are represented as well. Medals in various minor metals as well as silver. Some of the more attractive pieces are a 61 mm French Medal from 1781 commemorating the birth of the Dauphin to Louis XVI and Marie Antionette featuring a dolphin and 6 French ships; a 69 mm bronze medallion of Swedish King Oscar II and his wife Sophia on their 25th wedding anniversary with their conjoined portraits on the obverse, and large sailing ship on the reverse; also an attractive 60 x 95 mm bronze plaque with a very detailed view of an antique sailing ship under construction, issued for the International Congress of Naval Engineers in Liege, Belgium in 1939. Many other choice pieces are included in this premium lot. Some have been cleaned, holed, corroded and/or have other defects. Close inspection is advised and will reward the diligent bidder.
