Islands off Thrace, Thasos AR Diobol(?). Circa 510-480 BC. Satyr advancing right, carrying off protesting nymph / Quadripartite incuse square. Le Rider, Thasiennes -; SNG Copenhagen -; HGC 6, -; BMC -. 1.59g, 14mm.

Very Fine. Toned. Unpublished in the Standard References and possibly unique.

Depicting a well known type from Thasos, that of the satyr carrying off the nymph, this seemingly unpublished diobol(?) fits into the known series of denominations previously encountered. Examples of this type are known as staters, drachms, and a hemidrachm (Lanz 161, lot 56), however until now the diobols of the series were known with only the figure of the running satyr.
