Good Very Fine, struck on a broad flan; lightly toned.
Denarii of this issue vary greatly in weight, with some being as light as 2.30g; this is a particularly heavy example for the type at 3.63g. This was the last issue of the denarius produced for mass circulation in the Roman Empire and one of a special issue of six (RIC 115, 127, 129-131) struck to mark the marriage of Gordian III to Sabinia Tranquillina in the summer of 240.
