Gilbert and Ellice Islands British Administration 1; 2; 10 Shillings; £1 1.1.1942 Pick 1; 2; 4; 5. These four notes form a complete type set for this Western Pacific British colony. Issued in January 1942, these notes were produced just before the islands were occupied by the Japanese who remained in control of the area until November, 1943. These notes are avidly collected by both world paper money and World War 2 era enthusiasts. Simply put there are not very many of these remaining yet alone a complete set of all four denominations. As a bonus, these notes, which are typewritten on what appears to be notebook paper with faint embossed seals, grade Very Fine 25 (2 Shilling and 10 Shilling) and Very Fine 30 (1 Shilling and £1). Each note has only minor issues such as small tears / splits, minor rust, and stains. Three of the four notes are the plate notes in the SCWPM-General Issues 1368-1960. Opportunities to acquire a complete set of these elusive notes are few and very far between. If this is your area of interest now is one of those opportunities.

Estimate: 25000-35000 USD
