Liberia Republic of Liberia 25¢ 26.8.1880 Pick UNL. An extremely rare denomination from a scarce issue. The Liberian Coat of Arms is seen at center, with a blank reverse. We are aware of one other example, serial number 1974 which is in the National Numismatic Collection. A comment on Wikipedia where the note is imaged states, "Prior to the discovery of this note in the National Numismatic Collection, the 25 cent denomination was not thought to exist." Timing of this online entry by curators of the collection was just days before this note was cataloged, making the timing perfect for delivering the best information possible to collectors. The denomination is accordingly unlisted in the Standard Catalog of World Paper Money and we could not locate any other auction offerings.
