Upper Senegal and Niger Gouvernement General de L'Afrique Occidentale Francaise L. 1917 0.50 Franc Pick 1a. The colony of Upper Senegal and Niger was formed in 1904 and remained under that name until after World War I when it became French Sudan. This note was clearly issued as a means of making change. The obverse and reverse of a French 50 centime coin are accurately portrayed. This note is, understandably, rare. PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 with a small tear noted which is difficult to detect through the third party holder.
