Quebec City, PQ- Union Bank of Canada $5 Aug. 2, 1886 Ch. # 730-10-02P Back Proof This institution began operations in 1865 with a provincial charter under the title of Union Bank of Lower Canada. It received its federal charter in 1886, changing its name to the Union Bank of Canada and commencing its chartered bank note issue. The 1907 notes were the last issued from its original location in Quebec City, as the bank moved its head office to Winnipeg in 1912. The back proof we are offering this evening does not match the design of the $5 pictured in the Charlton reference however, it does match the same general design of the $20 used for this issue. According to Charlton, the only known issued notes for this series are in institutional collections. PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
