1783 SHILNG Chalmers Shilling, Long Worm VF20 PCGS. Breen-1012, W-1790, R.4. Two basic varieties differ in the length of the worm that the sparrows are fighting over. On some, the worm is short and might feed one sparrow, and on others the worm would provide lunch for both. This piece will satisfy both sparrows with its long worm and pleasing pewter-gray surfaces. Apparent weakness at the lower left obverse is the result of a minor die bulge, and weakens the reverse lettering as well. Listed on page 53 of the 2017 Guide Book.
