Half Cents
1793 1/2 C C-4, B-4, Low R.3 -- Smoothed -- PCGS Genuine. XF Details. Manley Die State 2.0 with a defect at the top of the 7. This is the final die state of the last 1793 half cent variety coined for the year. The total mintage of 35,334 half cents were coined from mid-July to mid-September 1793. The final delivery occurred on the coldest day of the month, September 18. That same day, the Mint ceased operations for two months so that personal could flee the yellow fever epidemic, although it was too late for some, such as engraver Joseph Wright who succumbed to the disease a few days earlier. Although smoothing and light scratches are evident on both sides, this piece has otherwise pleasing surfaces and lovely mahogany surfaces. Our EAC grade Fine 15.
From The Palos Verdes Collection.
