1796 1C Liberty Cap, S-89, B-10, R.3 -- Flip-Over Double Strike, Surfaces Tooled -- PCGS Genuine. The PCGS number ending in .98 suggests Damage as the reason, or perhaps one of the reasons, that PCGS deemed this coin not gradable. In our opinion, this coin has the details of a VF specimen that has tooled surfaces. Although minor scratches and smoothing appear on the surfaces, this is a remarkable example that shows much of the wreath and reverse legend at the upper right and lower right obverse. Likewise, substantial detail from the bust and cap appear on the reverse. The first strike was off-center and the second strike was properly centered. Our EAC grade VG10.
