Proof Flying Eagle Cents
1856 1C Snow-9 -- Filed Rims -- PCGS Genuine. Proof, Unc. Details. The rims are filed near 9 o'clock on both sides, but this fully struck specimen is nonetheless pleasing. The pumpkin-gold fields are free from contact, and carbon is limited to a few tiny obverse flecks. Snow-9 is the usual die variety for proof 1856 Flying Eagle cents. They were an unofficial restrike from the late 1850s, during an era when Mint employees were striking back-dated proof coins for private gain, such as half cents, Seated dollars, and 1804 dollars.
